MEGALOPOLIS HELMET

A deeply cyberpunk & Hiroto Ikeuchi inspired Helmet design for the last project of my friend Benjamin Bardou.
The design was done into Fusion 360.
The second helmet is an early worklow test also made into Fusion 360 within a day.

Had this awesome opportunity to design a full sized Jaeger in 2018 for Nki.
While designing it I also tried to add some Gundam inspiration as a big fan of the license. Working at this scale and adding/managing the details to fill the size of this huge mecha was pure happiness

HELMET

Inspiration

THE SUIT BEHIND THE HERO

Leviathan Exploration Suit the symbol of the space hero. How many books, movies, games are talking about a hero evolving through dangerous universe equipped with an also heroic armor? The hero suit, is always the representation of the values of its holder. Seeing an astronaut’s space suit is nothing more than seeing the astronaut’s values and what space exploration represents. A symbolic prism of what space exploration is. Those suits are also the results and the apogee of thousands people and minds through time to develop the perfect tool answering to very strong needs, prowess of both design and engineering.

As base inspirations I used very famous fiction characters like the Halo Master Chief or Stormtrooper from Star Wars for its color rhythms. I took also more inspirations in licenses like Mass Effect which is already a universe based on the concept of exploration and the will of Human. About functionality the Heroes suits from Gundam and more generally from Japan mecha anime were also really inspiring. Not designed for a direct combat they are very light, mostly with a majority of fabrics and some mechanical parts and a well designed helmet.

For my suit design, I wanted something very strong symbolically and a fit design to free the mind and the body. This suit has its own personality and is defining what the Hexodeus project is: moving forward, evolve and always discover more.

Robot Valeo

Robot Valeo

Robot design for a Ad of the Valeo brand.

Backlight studio asked me to create a robot for the Valeo brand, an automotive supplier. They supplied us a lot of their 3D pieces, being that, this project became a kitbash project with real car parts.
It was an awesome occasion to learn about automotive engineering, to understand the functionalities of the pieces and their design. The interior of the robot is made at almost 80% with this “real” kitbash. So my work was to assemble the pieces together to give life to a robot.

In addition I had also to create pieces to get better transition between the different parts, or create his skeleton. Like the frame of the torso, it contribute to give him life, some pieces where also created to allow him to move.

I also worked with Aymeric Favre, he made an early version of the robot assembly, fingers and the head of the robot. We worked together to give it as much movement freedom as possible.

Robot Design

The Valeo identity is green and white, I took inspiration from racing car and supercar like Porsche and Lamborghini. Details at every scale and the angular shapes are perfect to bring a sportive spirit to the robot. For example we can have a look at the interior of the belly like on the supercars to directly look at the engine.

Robot Frame

The interior is made at 80% from the kitbash of the official Valeo mechanic pieces. For this reason I decided to focus on the assembly of those different parts and organs to obtain something realistic. Then I also added some missing parts, mostly for the joints ands articulations. Finally I partially created a skeleton around the arms, legs and torso.
The final pass was to add wires, I added them like veins, with the same logic for the wires of the belly to get something like entrails, with a lot of layers of wires and different radius scales.
The design of the whole robot is the translation of real human anatomy parts into existing mechanics pieces.

The Surge: Characters

CLIENT Capsule Studio

YEAR 2016

The Surge is the first project of the new post-production studio Capsule based in Paris, produced by Focus Interactive and developed by Deck13 this Action-RPG game take place in a dystopian Future.
As a brand new studio we were a small team, but used to work together, we had 4 and half months to start from scratch and deliver those 6:16 minutes of this dystopian world called The Surge.

My role was to produce all the cinematic assets, from the armors to ennemies, weapons but also environments, props, pre-lighting for the ambiance of the shots and scene assembly of a part of the trailer. It was a lot of responsibilities on a really short deadline.
The anatomy work with the two characters and the cloths were made by the talented Character Artist Julien Nicolas.

If I had to define my main goal on The Surge in one word it will be: Efficiency. To find the best balance between quality, realism and productivity.

Exoskeleton & Process

The renders below are a WIP of the Exo, close to its final stage. The character and his clothes was also a WIP of Julien Nicolas, we worked simultaneously on the hero, Warren. Me on hard surface stuff and him and anatomic and organic stuff which was essential to avoid movement and collision problems between the clothes and the exo.

Armors

On the armors, I tried to play a lot with bolts and screws to better identify the different parts and project us more into the functionality of each one, how they are attached, reinforced and articulated. I also used booleans to machining the heaviest parts and make them a bit lighter with negative shapes, which have for result to renforce the feeling of heaviness.
Colors, silhouette and style of originals designs from game weren’t changed.

Ennemies

Some views of the ennemies of the trailer I had to also make, my work was mainly to improve the level of details from the original designs of the game.
